Ukeru

Every YES Home staff member is trained in Ukeru, a nationally recognized, restraint-free crisis management approach grounded in trauma-informed care and brain-based research. Ukeru means "to receive" in Japanese and is built on the principle of "comfort over control." The approach helps staff understand that behavior is often a form of communication and respond to youth with compassion, patience, and respect. Through hands-on training, practical de-escalation strategies, and specialized protective equipment, staff learn to safely support youth during moments of distress without using restraint, seclusion, or coercive practices.
